We have just discovered what remains to be a field at large.  Electronics was just a beginning.  Next might be Chirotronics, Spintronics, Valleytronics…. Even the eyes of the insects are naturally formed in maze of hexagonal shapes.  Another source of naturally occurring hex-elements working together to form a part of an organ.
